You want to feel like yourself again. We’re here to help.

Something happened. Maybe it was a single event, or maybe it was a slow accumulation of experiences over time. Either way, you haven't felt quite the same since. You might not even call it trauma. You just know that you feel stuck, on edge, or disconnected, and no matter how hard you try, you can't seem to shake it.

Trauma and PTSD can look very different from person to person. For some, it shows up as vivid flashbacks or nightmares that pull you back into moments you desperately want to leave behind. For others, it is more subtle: a constant sense of hypervigilance, feeling like you always need to brace for something bad to happen. Maybe you find yourself avoiding certain places, people, or conversations because they feel too close to the thing you are trying to move past.

You might be noticing it in your relationships too. Perhaps you feel emotionally shut down or numb, struggling to connect with the people you love even when you want to. Or maybe small things are setting you off in ways that feel disproportionate and confusing, leaving you wondering what is wrong with you.

Nothing is wrong with you. Your nervous system is doing exactly what it was designed to do: protect you. The problem is that it hasn't gotten the signal that the danger has passed. That is where trauma therapy comes in.

At Alignwell Modern Therapy in Bellevue, our therapists are trained to help you gently and safely process what you have been through, at a pace that feels right for you. Healing from trauma is possible. You do not have to carry this forever

You’re tired of feeling caught in this cycle:

  • “I feel like I'm always waiting for something to go wrong."

  • "I don't understand why I can't just move on."

  • "I feel disconnected from myself and the people I love."

  • "I'm exhausted from pretending everything is fine."

Let’s clear something up

You don't have to have "been through something big" to deserve support.

One of the most common reasons people put off seeking trauma therapy is the belief that what they went through does not count. That it was not bad enough. That other people have it worse. That they should be over it by now.

We hear this all the time. And we want to gently, firmly push back on it.

Trauma is not defined by the event. It is defined by the impact.

Two people can go through the same experience and be affected in completely different ways. That does not mean one of them is weaker or more damaged. It means that our nervous systems, our histories, our support systems, and our circumstances all shape how we process and carry difficult experiences. There is no objective threshold you have to meet to deserve help.

Here are some of the most common myths we encounter, and the truth behind them:

"What happened to me wasn't that bad." Trauma does not have a minimum requirement. Emotional neglect, chronic stress, a difficult childhood, the slow erosion of a painful relationship, these experiences are real and they leave real marks. You do not have to have survived something catastrophic to be struggling.

"I should be over it by now." Trauma does not follow a timeline. The nervous system does not heal on a schedule, and there is no expiration date on the impact of a difficult experience. If something is still affecting your daily life, your relationships, or your sense of self, it is worth addressing, no matter how long ago it happened.

"Other people have it so much worse." Comparing your pain to someone else's does not make yours disappear. It just adds a layer of shame on top of it. Your experiences are valid on their own terms, without needing to be ranked against anyone else's.

"Talking about it will only make it worse." This is one of the most understandable fears, and one we take seriously. Trauma therapy is not about forcing you to relive what happened. A skilled trauma therapist knows how to help you process difficult experiences in ways that reduce their power over you, not amplify it. We go at your pace, always.

If any part of you wonders whether therapy might help, that part is worth listening to.

you don’t want to feel this way anymore. How we can help:

Trauma therapy can help you feel safe, grounded, and whole again.

Trauma does not just live in our memories. It lives in our bodies, our nervous systems, and the unconscious patterns that shape how we move through the world. That is why effective trauma therapy goes beyond just talking about what happened. At Alignwell Modern Therapy, we work with the whole person.

Our Bellevue therapists draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to help you process your experiences in a way that feels safe and manageable. We will never push you to go somewhere you are not ready to go. Instead, we will build a strong therapeutic foundation first, developing the trust and tools you need before diving into the deeper work.

Trauma therapy looks different for everyone, and that is by design. Whether you are recovering from a single traumatic event, childhood trauma, relationship abuse, a medical crisis, or the kind of ongoing stress that quietly erodes your sense of self, we are here to meet you where you are.

imagine if you…

Could move through your days without feeling on guard all the time

Learn to regulate your nervous system so that safety feels possible again, not just something other people get to feel.

Were able to talk about your experiences without being flooded by them

Process what happened at a pace that feels manageable, with a therapist who knows how to hold space for the hard stuff.

Felt present and connected in your relationships again

Reclaim the intimacy, trust, and closeness that trauma can quietly erode over time.

Could finally stop surviving and start actually living

Build a life that feels like yours again, grounded in who you are now, not defined by what happened to you.

The approaches we use.

Healing from trauma takes more than just talking about it.

At Alignwell Modern Therapy, our Bellevue therapists draw from several evidence-based approaches to support trauma and PTSD recovery. We often combine methods based on what feels right for you and where you are in your healing process.

  • CBT helps you identify and reshape the thought patterns that trauma can create, including the beliefs about yourself, others, and the world that form in the aftermath of difficult experiences. Learn more about CBT at Alignwell.

  • Somatic therapy works with the body directly, because trauma is not only stored in memory. It lives in the nervous system, in physical tension, and in the ways we unconsciously brace, shut down, or disconnect. Somatic work helps you gently release what your body has been holding. Learn more about Somatic Therapy at Alignwell.

  • Narrative therapy helps you separate your sense of self from the story that trauma has written about you. You are not what happened to you, and this approach helps you reclaim your identity and rewrite the narrative on your own terms. Learn more about Narrative Therapy at Alignwell.

  • Client centered therapy creates the foundation of safety, trust, and unconditional acceptance that trauma healing requires. For many clients, feeling genuinely heard and not judged is itself a powerful part of the recovery process. Learn more about Client Centered Therapy at Alignwell.

What to expect:

Your first session is about getting to know you. Nothing more.

We know that reaching out for trauma therapy can feel like a big step. Maybe you have been putting it off for a while. Maybe you are not sure you are "ready." Maybe you are worried about what it will feel like to walk into a therapist's office and start talking about the things you have worked so hard to keep contained.

We want you to know: your first session is not about diving into the deep end. When you come in for your first appointment at our Bellevue office, or log on for your first video session, the focus is simple. Your therapist will take the time to get to know you as a person, not just as a list of symptoms or a set of experiences. You will talk about what brought you in, what life has felt like lately, and what you are hoping therapy might help with. That is it.

Here is what will not happen in your first session:

  • You will not be pushed to recount traumatic memories before you are ready

  • You will not be given homework you did not agree to

  • You will not feel rushed, judged, or like you have to perform your pain in a certain way

Trauma therapy moves at your pace, always. Building trust between you and your therapist is not just a nice thing to have, it is a clinical necessity. The relationship itself is part of the healing, and we take that seriously from the very first hello. By the end of your first session, you will have a clearer sense of what working together could look like, and your therapist will begin to understand what kind of support will serve you best. From there, you will create a plan together, one that honors both your goals and your limits.

You just have to show up. We will take it from there.
